Be bold, be brave: Engineers' Week 2014
Engineers' Week is a national celebration of all engineering disciplines. At The University of Texas at Austin, the Student Engineering Council hosts a week long competition between all the engineering organizations. They put down their pencils and find their pride. Welcome to their world.
For this project, I went to a lot of the different competition events. Capture the flag was great because it involved a part of campus that most engineering students normally don't go to. I think the best event to photograph was the competition where each organization had to see how many people they could successfully tape to wall. As the publicity director for the Student Engineering Council, I get to see these individuals have fun often, but a lot of people believe the stereotypes that engineers just do math. I wanted to show others that engineers are humans too -- not just nerdy ninjas.
Below you will find some stills I have taken over the last few years.
Gateway to the West
This picture was taken at the St. Louis Arch in December 2012. I was born in Illinois, but spent a lot of time in this city across the river. Architecture -- studying and appreciating it -- is a hobby of mine and I am always in awe of the structural engineering that made this monument possibly. In St. Louis there is a law that no building can be taller than the Arch, which stands at 630 feet.
